MTV’s Jersey Shore is back for a second season and this half Sicilian cannot wait! I’m obviously not the only fan elated because “Snooki” was just featured front page in the Style section of the NEW YORK TIMES. Most of you reading know what I mean if I say, GTL. If you don’t or for those of you who feign ignorance, G. T. L. = Gym. Tan. Laundry. To them, this is WORK before PLAY. Although the show isn’t being filmed on the Jersey Shore this go round, Bellview Winery’s 2009 Traminette was born, bred and raised in the state of New Jersey. If you aren’t familiar with the Traminette, it is a French-American hybrid. Related to the Gewürztraminer, with similar characteristics of Gewürztraminer but hardier and fuller than it‘s ‘parents’. The Traminette flourishes in the hot summers and moderate winters of parts of the east coast. Located in Landisville, the heart of south Jersey, winemaker and owner Jim Quarella released his latest Traminette this past June.
Bellview Winery’s 2009 Traminette’s color in the glass is a faint hue of straw-like lemon chiffon. The nose is both spicy and floral with notes of Chinese five spice, lemon thyme, Jasmine and Hibiscus. It is an off-dry very full bodied wine, extremely fruit forward. The taste is that of Crenshaw, Honeydew and Casaba melons with a quince and rosehip finish. Despite the fact this is definitely a rich, silky, full bodied white wine it has an almost oxy-moronic crisp and exhilarating finish. It’s fruity structure, crisp and arousing finish lends to make this the perfect summer sipping in the sizzling temperatures of summer in the Tri State area.
I now raise my white wine glass filled with Bellview Winery’s 2009 Traminette and say Salute to a new season of Jersey Shore...Different Shore. Same Crazy…
